Shravani faced severe health complications following her pregnancy when she was diagnosed with advanced kidney disease. With both kidneys failing, she required dialysis twice a week, a treatment made more challenging by the long-distance travel from her village to the city and the lack of local nephrology expertise. The family was under immense financial and emotional strain, exacerbated by her husbandโs debilitating stroke, which left him dependent and unable to assist with household responsibilities or consider organ donation.
Despite the overwhelming challenges, Shravani remained the familyโs primary caregiver and worked part-time to support her father-in-law, the familyโs main breadwinner. Her father-in-law's decision to donate his kidney was a rare and profound gesture, yet the family faced significant financial barriers to the transplant.

Recognizing the familyโs plight, Manipal Hospital Hebbal, in partnership with TRFโs Global Grant Lift-Up Project, stepped in to provide the transplant at no cost. The Lift-Up Project is dedicated to offering funding for at least 100 free transplants for underprivileged women and children, with the stipulation that the donors must be legal living donors who cannot afford the treatment costs themselves.
The transplant surgery took place on July 3, with a team of doctors from Manipal Hospital Hebbal, led by Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician Deepak Kumar Chithralli and Head of Urology, Renal Transplantation and Robotic Surgery Ajay S. Shetty. Shravani was discharged on July 11, marking a new chapter in her life.
This successful collaboration highlights the impact of philanthropic initiatives in transforming lives and underscores the importance of community and medical support in overcoming personal health crises.
