Mother's Love is Priceless

Our only son Aum was very active and a quick learner. When he was 3 years old, we found out that he had cysts in his kidney. We were helpless; the doctor said that there is no cure for this condition.

But we never lost our hopes. We went to several hospitals and doctors, also we were constantly checking on his medical condition every month.

His creatinine was rising and hemoglobin was decreasing over time. He was given erythropoietin shots to improve his condition. But even that did not help. His BP was rising continuously and his condition was not improving. He was a national level swimmer, and had received a silver medal, but due to his deteriorating medical condition, he did not want to swim, and it came as a shock to us.

The doctor told us to be mentally and financially ready for a higher treatment like a transplant as that was the only treatment left for him. During this, the whole world was under the attack of COVID-19. Hospitals were full of COVID patients and our son's health was in danger.

He was on a ventilator for 5 days, and then his condition started improving with some medicine and dialysis. He had a catheter inserted in his neck for dialysis and we were planning a transplant at the same time.

Many people said that transplant is a risk and he will not live long even after donating a kidney but my decision to donate a kidney was final. The doctor warned that the catheter placed on his neck could cause infection and increase the risk of other COVID attacks.

But the hospitals were refusing to admit other patients during the covid times. We requested the medical in-charge of the state that after several tests we got a positive reply to provide the treatment.

My kidney got matched with my son Aum and without waiting much we went to Narayana Hospital and got his kidney transplanted. This is the second time I gave life to my son, I cannot think of my future without him. It was a mother's courage and I don't regret nor feel guilty for donating. I am happy as a mother, I am lucky that I gave him a second life.
