Obesity can take wicket your kidneys

As per the WHO report

1.9 billion adults worldwide were overweight in 2016, with 650 million obese

 

39% of adults were overweight in 2016 and 13% were obese

 

38.3 million children under 5 were overweight or obese in 2019

 

Carrying extra pounds in the era of complementary extra stress is very unhealthy. According to a saying, “One thing leads to another”. These extra inches can molest your kidneys secretly.

HOW?

Chronic kidney disease can affect anyone despite age, gender, or background. Though these factors contribute to prevailing CKD they aren’t solely responsible to blame upon. The leading cause of CKD is high blood pressure and diabetes.

The extra weight forces the kidneys to labor more and filters wastes above the normal level.  Over time, this extra effort by kidneys increases the risk for kidney disease.  It is simple, when there’s more of you, your kidneys have to work more.

Getting overweight or obese can elevate the chances of developing high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes. Obesity alone can also root kidney disease, even in people without diabetes.

It can also give birth to the risk of heart disease, stroke, and some cancers and affect an individual's lifestyle, self-esteem, and emotional happiness.

Listed are some ways to reduce your risk for chronic kidney disease if you are overweight or obese:

  • Stay updated with your Body Mass Index (BMI): BMI will give you an approximate idea of your total percent of body fat.  Normal BMI is usually between 18 and 25. BMI in the range 25 to 30 is considered overweight, and greater than 30 is marked obese.
  • Check your kidney's health by doing urine and blood test.
  • Control blood sugar
  • Control blood pressure
